Heath grew up an hour from St. Louis in Bunker Hill, Illinois. With a population of 1700 his childhood could have been very similar to Twain's "Huckleberry Finn". Heath did plenty of fishing, but summer nights were also dominated by baseball and basketball with his only brother, Mark. The 6'5" actor still plays plenty of basketball near his home in Calabasas, CA. His interest in acting didn't develop until 1997 when he took a basic acting class at ST. Louis Community College, after reading an article in the Wall Street Journal, which recommended such classes as helpful tools for building presentation skills. The class was vastly different from the business education he received in college and it tapped into his performance interests, which began on the basketball court. Unlike Huck, Heath is a pretty straight arrow and his manner is very often compared to one of his acting favorites, James Stewart. He has even spent his post-college years as a banker, not unlike Stewart's George Bailey of "It's a Wonderful Life", which has always been Heath's favorite film. When not acting he seems to be perpetually training to beat Oprah Winfrey's marathon time and undermining the training by cooking and eating anything in site. He is married to wife Darlene and they have a twelve pound Maltese-terrier mix named Harvey who was adopted on the short-running Discovery Channel show "Petfinders".
